  • Only upload photos you personally took or have clear permission and legal rights to share. No copyrighted images taken from websites, social media, news, or other people.
  • No logos, trademarks, watermarks, or branded signage.
  • No people in photos at all. This is an absolute rule, even if a person is in the background, their face is hidden, blurred, or not recognizable. Do not upload images containing bystanders, pedestrians, victims, children, police officers, firefighters, EMTs, or any other person.

Reports are user-submitted and may be inaccurate, incomplete, delayed, or removed. New reports appear automatically as “Unverified community report.” CoastWatch FL does not fact-check or independently verify reports. Approved photographs have passed a content and privacy screening only; photo approval does not verify the reported event.

Privacy Notice — what information is stored?

Browsing does not require an account. Reports you submit may store the location you select, details you enter, optional display name, and photos you choose to upload. Photos remain pending review until approved. Anonymous reports are supported.

If you use “My location,” your device location is used in the page to center the map and is not sent to CoastWatch FL or saved as a visitor-location record. You can choose a map location manually.

When you accept the terms, the site records the terms version, acceptance time, a browser-session identifier, and browser/user-agent information. Hosting and service providers may also process technical connection information to operate and protect the site.

Thanks for being here. CoastWatch FL is a volunteer-run, non-commercial community information project. These terms explain what the site is, how to use it safely, and what information is involved.

1. A community tool — not an emergency service

CoastWatch FL is not a government agency, 911 service, emergency dispatcher, or professional monitoring service. Reports are not sent to emergency responders. No one is guaranteed to be watching the site or able to respond. For emergencies or immediate danger, call 911.

2. Community reports are not official verification

Reports, map pins, photographs, and status labels are submitted or reviewed by community members. They may be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, duplicated, or unavailable. A label such as “reviewed” or “confirmed” means only that an authorized CoastWatch FL volunteer reviewed the submission; it is not an official finding or a guarantee that a location is safe. Check official sources before making decisions.

3. Please put safety first

Do not enter floodwater, approach fires or downed power lines, enter damaged buildings, or put yourself or anyone else at risk to make a report or take a photograph. Follow instructions from emergency personnel and official authorities. Do not delay evacuation or other protective action to use this website.

4. Use of the site and responsibility

You decide whether and how to use information on CoastWatch FL. To the extent permitted by applicable law, the project owner and its volunteers are not responsible for losses or harm arising from your use of the site, reliance on community-submitted information, service interruptions, or actions taken by other users. Nothing in these terms is intended to waive rights or limit responsibilities that cannot legally be waived or limited.

5. Community submissions

Please submit information honestly and only when it is relevant to community safety. Do not trespass, impersonate officials, threaten others, or submit unlawful, abusive, graphic, intimate, or identifying material. Avoid sharing private personal information. Only upload photographs you have the right and permission to share. You are responsible for the content you submit.

6. Moderation and availability

CoastWatch FL volunteers may review, approve, edit, hide, or remove submissions and may restrict access when needed to protect the community. Reports and photographs may not be reviewed immediately. The site may be unavailable or changed without notice.

7. No professional relationship or advice

Information on this site is not legal, medical, engineering, law-enforcement, weather, or emergency-management advice. Using the site does not create a professional, agency, employment, or other formal relationship with its owner or volunteers.

8. Privacy — what the site handles

CoastWatch FL does not require an account to browse or submit an anonymous report. When you submit a report, the information you enter may be stored, including map coordinates or address, description, category, optional display name, and photos you choose to upload. Report locations are shown on the public map.

Photos are uploaded for review and are not displayed publicly unless approved by a moderator. The site records acceptance of these terms, including the terms version, time of acceptance, a browser-session identifier, and browser/user-agent information. Website service providers may process technical connection information as part of hosting and security.

The optional “My location” button asks your device for its current location so the map can center on you. That location is used in the page and is not sent to CoastWatch FL or saved as a visitor-location record. You can select a location manually instead. You do not have to use this feature.

Please avoid submitting sensitive personal information about yourself or others. For privacy questions or removal requests, use the contact information on the website.

9. Your choice

By selecting “I agree — continue,” you confirm that you have read and agree to these terms. You are not required to provide your device location. If you do not agree, choose “I do not agree — leave website” and do not use the site.
